Born in 1947 as Albert Thomas Emery III but raised under my stepfathers’ surname of Jennings. My mother remarried Joseph Jennings after my father abandoned her, my sister Sulyn, and myself when I was about four years old and was never heard from again. His mother, Pebble Culpepper was broken hearted that she never saw or talked with him again during her life. I took up the hobby of genealogy to discover my family roots. All that I knew was my fathers name and his fathers name, and I knew those because I was born as the third Albert Thomas Emery. I never met my grandfather, and I don’t know if he even knows that I existed. My searching and DNA test have revealed to me over a hundred aunts, uncles, and cousins and my biggest shock of all was discovering five sisters all born to different mothers. Attempting to break through what we call a genealogical “brick wall” where an ancestor’s line comes to an end I took a Y-chromosome test, and it revealed an even bigger surprise. My documentation may say that I am an Emery, but the DNA says that I am descended from the Dutch Cole’s (also spelled Kool and Cool). This test was confirmed when I had two male cousins take the test and one of them came out as an Emery and the other one came out as a Cole. Thus, the research goes on and new discoveries await me.

Thanks for all your work on WikiTree. I noticed that you have begun adding profiles for the pre-1700 ancestors you have found in your search. Congratulations on finding records back that far!
Since you are now back in the time period where many people can be descended from those ancestors, we need more details in your source area. As collaborative genealogists, we need to tell each other our sources so that we can work together to assess the relative reliability of the source and the evidence it contains. Using the tips in the Links to Ancestry FAQ to add a link directly to the record you found can help.
The Sources - Examples section more fully explains what information needs to be included in source citations for pre-1700 profiles.
We're looking for reliable sources to add to the various lists. Would your source be a good addition?
Thanks,
Debi
I used a source linked from Ancestry.com Citation information Detail Book Title: Emery : Four generations of the descendants of John Emery, Sen , of Newbury, Mass , and Anthony Eme Edit source Source information Title North America, Family Histories, 1500-2000 Author Ancestry.com Publisher Ancestry.com Operations, Inc. Publisher date 2016 Publisher location Provo, UT, USA Edit repository Repository information Name Ancestry.com
That book looks really interesting. It's nice that there are descriptions and transcriptions of the data that was found. A more complete citation for that book would look something like this with the "page ?" replaced by the page number on which you found the person:
By the way, that book is also available without a subscription in the InternetArchive at https://archive.org/details/emeryfourgenerat00emer That may help researchers who don't have a subscription to Ancestry.
I hope this helps explain how to create a citation that is useful for all,
Debi

To make DNA connections with your cousins, WikiTree needs to see your FamilyTree. You should use the pale yellow Privacy setting on any profiles in your DNA family line so that WikiTree can see the Family Tree tab. (Please set all living children to the Unlisted privacy level.)
As you add your family lines and connect to the big WikiTree, you may find you are related to people you never expected. Use the Relationship calculator to see if you are related to me, Cooper-1 with http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Relationship
Please let me know if you need any assistance.
Our vision is to build a collaborative tree with one profile per person. The farther back you go, it's likely you will find duplicate profiles to link into, so it's a good idea to do a search before you create a new profile.
Do you have Royal Ancestors? If so, they are already here! Please contact the EuroAristo Project to discuss connecting your family line to their already existing profiles.
WikiTree strives to be a fun, collaborative, productive site. It is different than what many people are used to. Please take advantage of the Help Menu in the upper right hand corner, our G2G Forum and of course, our Mentors :)
